Earthwork pits were visible.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

Two irregularly shaped pits circa 33 and 38 metres across were visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible earthworks corresponded with areas defined by dashed lines on the Tithe Map for Payhembury, with the northernmost depicted as pits on the OS First Edition 25inch map. This supports the interpretation that the extractive pits had probably passed out of use by the late-19th century.
