Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A roughly circular pit circa 25 metres in diameter was visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1947 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. A linear extension up to about 8 metres wide and 30 metres long extends to the south from pit to a neighbouring field boundary.
The visible earthwork did not correspond with any pit features depicted on the 19th century mapping available to the survey, but its location might be respected by a field boundary on the Tithe Map for Feniton. This might support the interpretation that the extractive pit was possibly of medieval date but had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century.
