A former oval extractive circa 45 metres across was visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible earthwork corresponds with a small, oval plot depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey. This supports the interpretation that the extractive pit survived as an earthwork into the mid-to-late 19th century. The pit was overgrown in 1947 and remained largely obscured by trees on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010.
