Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The earthworks roughly correspond with areas depicted as woodland..

Royal Air Force, 1947, RAF/CPE/UK/1974, RAF/CPE/UK/1974 RP 3449-3450 11-APR-1947 (Aerial Photograph). SDV356127.

Ordnance Survey, 2016, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV359352.

Woodland depicted in these locations.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

Three former extractive pits from 45 to 85 metres across were visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1947 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
Only one of the three pits, that centred on circa ST12030184 corresponds with any features depicted on the Tithe Map for Awliscombe, where a dashed line approximates the location of the pit. All three correspond closely with copses defined by dashed lines on the OS First Edition 25 inch map.
This might support the interpretation that the extractive pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century and were subsequently left to scrub over or deliberately reused as woodland. The pits remain densely wooded.
