An oval shaped pit circa 45 by 15 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on aerial photograph of 1947 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey but fall within a plot alongside banks interpreted as evidence for fruit tree planting. This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive that pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century and were subsequently utilised as an orchard.
