The visible earthwork does not correspond with any depicted pit but roughly matched the area of Plot 615.

A pit circa 40 by 35 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on aerial photograph of 1947 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any feature depicted as a pit in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey, but did closely match the area of small irregularly shaped plot on the Tithe Map for Buckerell parish. This plot was depicted as an orchard on the OS First Edition 25 inch map.
This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive that pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century and was subsequently utilised as an orchard.
