The visible earthwork closely corresponds with an area defined by a dashed line.

A roughly circular shaped pit or hollow was visible as an earthwork.

A curvilinear pit less than 20 metres across was visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible earthworks roughly correspond to an area outlined by a dashed line on the Tithe Map for Buckerell parish. It is not depicted on the OS First Edition map.
This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive pit that had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century.
