Ordnance Survey, 1982, OS/82218 V, OS/82218 V 1149-1150 28-AUG-1982 (Aerial Photograph). SDV359504.

Earthworks pits were visible north and south of the road.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

Two curvilinear pits up to circa 80 by 40 metres in size were visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1982, either side of the road from Hayne Farm to Wadhayes, Awliscombe parish.
The earthworks visible to the north of the road partly corresponded with, but extended beyond, a plot depicted on the Tithe Map for Awliscombe. This pit encompasses an orchard depicted on the OS First 25 inch map. South of the road the field boundaries respected the area of the second pit but it is otherwise not shown.
This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of extractive pits that had passed out of use prior to the mid- 19th century and were, north of the road, subsequently utilised as an orchard.
