Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The visible earthworks do not correspond with any depicted pit.

Ordnance Survey, 1982, OS/82218 V, OS/82218 V 1147-1148 28-AUG-1982 (Aerial Photograph). SDV359504.

A D-shaped pit was visible as an earthwork.

Environment Agency, 1998-2014, LiDAR DTM data (1m resolution), LIDAR ST1102 Environment Agency DTM 01-JAN-1998 to 30-SEP-2014 (Cartographic). SDV359177.

A D-shaped pit was visible as an earthwork.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A D-shaped pit circa 45 by 27 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1982 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible earthworks closely correspond with a small area defined by a dashed line, probably a pit, depicted on the Tithe Map for Awliscombe. It is not marked on the OS First Edition 25 inch map. This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive that pit had probably passed out of use by the mid-to-late 19th century.
