Possible extraction pits of post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as two earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1947 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the east of Newcombe Common. The northeast of the two earthworks is irregular in shape and measures approximately 56m in length by 41m in width, with that to the southwest being oval in shape and measuring approximately 30m in length by 23m in width.
