Extraction pits of likely post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the west of South Farm. The three adjacent semi-circular and sub-circular shaped earthworks measure between 32m to 45m in length and are partly symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map. The south-eastern two earthworks straddle an historic field boundary and would appear to have originally formed part of a single extraction pit, predating this field boundary.
