Possible tree-planting banks of former post-medieval to 19th century orchards are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the north of Bodmiscombe. Orchards are depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, although by 1947, aerial photographs show that the orchard trees have been partly thinned out, exposing a series of parallel northeast to southwest and possible north to south aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These banks occupy an area of approximately 0.75 hectares of gentle northeast facing slope, within two adjacent plots. The earthworks within the easternmost plot were poorly defined in nature and so are possibly more extensive than has been transcribed here. The extent of these possible earthworks has, however, been included within the monument polygon for this record.
