A possible extraction pit of likely post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the south of Hayne Farm. The irregular shaped earthwork measures approximately 50m in length by 34m in width. A possible pond is depicted here on First Edition Ordnance Survey map, so the earthwork clearly pre-dates this time. It is also located in close proximity to ‘Old clay pits’ depicted on this map, so it is reasonable to argue that this pit was similarly utilised for such.
