Post-medieval to 19th century extraction pits are visible as two earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1944 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the north of Shutes Farm. The earthworks are irregular in shape and measure between 43m to 53m in length. The southern of these two earthworks is depicted as a copse on the Parish Tithe map of 1838-48, the trees likely being established within the pit following its abandonment.
