A possible post-medieval to 19th century extraction pit is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1982 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the northeast of Shutes Farm. The sub oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 18m in length by 13m in width and is located on moderate northwest facing slope. Some degree of caution should, however, be exercised and it is possible that this earthwork is of natural origin, perhaps a spring head, particularly given the number of springs depicted on the slopes here.
