Probable clay pits of post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, on moderate east facing slope to the southwest of Lower Sheldon Grange. The two adjacent earthworks are irregular in shape, measure between 52m to 72m in length and are situated either side of a stream, although would appear to form part of the same workings. Clay pits (MDV35329) are depicted to the immediate north on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, which gives a good indication as to the likely use of these pits. They are not clearly visible on aerial photographs or other digital images made available to the survey owing to tree cover here.
