Clay pits of likely post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1944 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the southwest of Higher Mackham Farm. The two earthworks are located either side of an historic field boundary. That to the north, which is depicted as an ‘Old Clay Pit’ on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, measures approximately 40m in length by 20m in width, whilst that to the south, which is defined as an orchard on this map, measures approximately 90m in length by 35m in width.
