A large irregular area of earthwork pits is visible on aerial photographs taken from 1947 onwards and on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. They cover a larger area than the two pits depicted within this area on late-19th century maps and may have been an earlier phase of extraction predating Sutton Quarries to the south-east. An ‘Old Limekiln’ is depicted within this area and extraction was probably associated with the lime making industry.
