The remains of parallel ridges were visible as low parallel earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. The plot in which the banks were visible was not depicted as an orchard or plantation on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map, but was adjacent to a plot to the west depicted as a plantation or mixed woodland.
The plot was listed as no. 853 and described as plantation on the Tithe map and apportionments for Payhembury whereas the plot to the west, 852, was described as an orchard. It is possible this plot had been previously used as an orchard. The visible banks were clear of trees by 1946 and the plantation had therefore been cleared in the first half of the 20th century, and the adjacent orchard converted to plantation.
