  • FIELD BOUNDARY (Early Medieval to Post Medieval - 1066 AD to 1750 AD (Between))

Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1989, OS/89038, OS/89038 V 234 07-MAR-1989 (Aerial Photograph). SDV359507.

Linear and curvilinear former boundaries were visible as cropmarks of ditches and slight earthworks.

Environment Agency, 1998-2014, LiDAR DTM data (1m resolution), LIDAR ST0800 Environment Agency DTM 01-JAN-1998 to 30-SEP-2014 (Cartographic). SDV359177.

Linear and curvilinear former boundaries were visible as slight earthworks.

Turner, S.C., 2005 - 2006, Devon Historic Landscape Characterisation Mapping (Cartographic). SDV349122.

The visible earthworks appear to predate the extant relatively large, regular enclosures that seem likely to have been laid out between C15th-C18th.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A t-shaped ditch up to 11 metres wide and 145 metres long was visible to the south of Yellingham Farm as an cropmark and earthwork respectively on aerial photographs of 1989 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The ditch did not correspond to the location of any field boundary depicted on the 19th century mapping available to the survey and might predate the extant field pattern which is characterised as Barton Fields, relatively large, regular enclosures of probably 15th to 18th century date.
