Slightly curved shallow ditches or hollows up to 8 metres wide were visible as earthworks to the south of Farrant’s Hayes, Clyst Hydon parish. The visible earthworks fell towards the eastern end of a plot depicted as an orchard on the 19th century mapping available to the survey. The earthworks are tentatively interpreted as former field or plot boundaries that predate the post-medieval enclosure pattern that dominates south and east of Farrant’s Hayes.
