Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A small circular pit circa 26 metres in diameter was visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 and aerial photographs of 2016.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey. This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive pit that had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century.
A narrow extrusion from the pit to the south might be evidence of drainage erosion or the line of a former boundary, perhaps an allotment boundary as depicted on the Tithe Map for Talaton. The pit is obscured from view on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010 by a dense tree canopy.
