A roughly semi-circular pit was visible as an earthwork.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A semi-circular shaped pit circa 35 metres in diameter was visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 abutting the east side of the road south-east of Rydon House.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey, but did match the location and shape of a small copse or woodland. This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive pit, possibly for road building material, that had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century.
The earthwork remains obscured from view by dense vegetation.
