HER Number:MDV118200
Name:Relict Field Boundaries in the former Widworthy Park west of Widworthy Court

Summary

Several linear and curvilinear earthwork banks and a ditch are visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016 and visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs taken in 2002 and 2006. They are interpreted as relict medieval or post-medieval field boundaries that went out of use by the mid-19th century, perhaps when the land was emparked.

Several linear and curvilinear banks are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs taken in 2002 and 2006, in former parkland just west of Widwothy Court. Some correspond to former boundaries depicted on the historic mapping, but others are not and two of these broadly correlate to former boundary banks to the east and west (MDV118143 and MDV118148). Subtle earthworks, including a ditch adjacent to one of the banks, are visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, but are not all clear enough to transcribe from. The features are interpreted as relict field boundaries that went out of use when the land was emparked in the post-medieval period.
