Full description

Smart, C. + Smart, H., 2014, Archaeological Trench Evaluation at Membury Court, Membury, 5, 11, 13 Fig. 9 (Report - Evaluation). SDV359982.

Archaeological trench evaluation targeted on a substantial rectilinear anomaly identified during geophysical survey in fields to the north of Membury Court revealed part of a U-shaped pit or ditch (112). The feature which was aligned east-west was 1.42 metres wide and 0.35 metres deep with a concave base. Its single homogenous fill (113) is likely to represent a single episode of rapid backfilling. A number of lithics of flint or chert were recovered including scrapers of probable Late Neolithic-Early Bronze Age date.
