Originally three 16th century miners cottages, this was converted into an inn around the turn of the century. It was called the New Inn, as there was already one inn in Horndon; The Black Lion. In 1952 it changed its name to The Elephant's Nest, after a nickname given to the overweight landlord. It has a very low entrance door and bar has a low beamed ceiling. In 1930 an extension was added to the building, now housing a kitchen and a bedroom.
