Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

The remains of parallel ridges circa 5 to 7 metres apart were visible as low earthwork banks in three plots over a total area of circa 1.0 ha to the west, east and south of Clyst William Farm, Plymtree parish, on aerial photographs of 1946 and digital images derived from lidar data acquired between 1998 and 2014.
The visible banks fell within Plots 75, 79 and 80 on the Tithe map, listed as Orchard, Home Orchard and New Park on the apportionments for Plymtree, the latter listed as under pasture. The former two plots were depicted as orchards on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First and Second Edition maps of circa 1880-90 and 1904-6, the latter was not,
The visible earthworks are therefore interpreted as the remains of banks made for fruit tree planting and improved orchard drainage, dating possibly from the post-medieval period or the 19th century. The plots to the east and west of the farmstead remained in use as orchards into the 20th century, under dense planting on aerial photographs of 1946 and still planted in 2010. The plot to the south, plot 80 on the Tithe Map, had probably ceased to be utilised as an orchard prior to the Tithe Survey and the banks in this area have probably been levelled.
