Two groups of curvilinear earthwork ditches are visible on aerial photographs taken from 1945 onwards and on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. They are roughly parallel to each other and run downslope and then broadly along the contour, although one segment in the south-west seems to run upslope and this may be part of a different system or perhaps an additional supply from the west. They are interpreted as the gutters of a catchmeadow system of post-medieval or 19th century date, and as no gutters or sluices are depicted on available historic mapping they are likely to pre-date the late-19th century. It seems that the watercourse running south-west from Blackgate is likely to be the natural water source.
