An irregularly shaped pit circa 35 by 40 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey, and the plot was listed as an orchard on the Tithe Apportionments for Broadhembury. This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive pit that had passed out of use prior to the mid-19th century.
