Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

The remains of parallel ridges almost 5 metres apart were visible as low earthwork banks over an area of circa 0.2 ha on aerial photographs of 1946.
The visible banks fell within a larger Plot numbered 305 on the Tithe map and apportionments for Plymtree, listed as Yard Orchard. The plot was also depicted as an orchard on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map of circa 1880-90. The plot had been cleared of trees by 1946.
The visible earthworks are therefore interpreted as the remains of banks made for fruit tree planting and improved orchard drainage, dating possibly from the post-medieval period or the 19th century that remained in use into the early-20th century.
The banks were not visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 and have probably been levelled.
