Full description

A pit was visible as an earthwork.
Environment Agency, 1998-2014, LiDAR DTM data (1m resolution), LIDAR ST0703 Environment Agency DTM 01-JAN-1998 to 30-SEP-2014 (Cartographic). SDV359177.
The pit remained visible as an enlarged earthwork.

An irregularly shaped pit circa 50 by 25 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1946.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey. This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive pit that had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century.
The pit remains visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014, albeit enlarged or extended to accommodate an expanded farmyard at Danes Mill.
