Full description
Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.
A pond was depicted in Plot 310.

A mixed deciduous and coniferous plantation was depicted.

A pit was indicated by differential tree growth.

An irregularly shaped pit circa 70 by 35 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014, and partly identifiable on aerial photographs of 1989.
A pond depicted on the Tithe Map for Plymtree falls within the extent of the visible earthwork. The same area is depicted as a mixed plantation on the OS First Edition 25 inch map.
This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive that pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century and was subsequently utilised as a pond.
