Possible tree-planting banks of a former post-medieval to 19th century orchard are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1948 onwards and on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2014, at Middle Luxton. An orchard is depicted here on the Parish Tithe map of 1838-48, although by the time of the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, the western part of the orchard appears to have passed out of use. The earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, are northeast to southwest aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.16 hectares of southwest facing slope.
