Possible post-medieval to 19th century extraction pits are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1948 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the south of Middle Luxton. The two irregular shaped earthwork pits measure approximately 74m in length and are located either side of a road. An orchard is depicted here on historic maps on the east side of the road, the orchard likely being established with in the pit following its abandonment. Some caution should, however, be exercised and it is also possible the earthworks here are of natural origin.
