HER Number:MDV118486
Name:Extraction pits at Hoemoor Farm, Upottery

Summary

A number of possible post-medieval to 19th century extraction pits are visible on aerial photographs of 1948 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016 at Hoemoor Farm. One of the earthworks partly corresponds to a marl pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map, suggesting the other associated earthworks were likely utilised for such.

A number of possible post-medieval to 19th century extraction pits are visible on aerial photographs of 1948 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016 at Hoemoor Farm. The eight earthworks are oval to irregular in shape, measure between 20m to 50m in length and are situated on southeast facing slope. One of the earthworks partly corresponds to a marl pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map, suggesting the other associated earthworks were likely utilised for such. It is also possible, however, that some of the earthworks recorded here are of natural origin.
