Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

The remains of numerous parallel ridges spaced circa 6 metres apart were visible as low earthwork banks in a plot to the north-west of Woodbere Court, Plymtree parish, on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible banks cover two areas of circa 0.4 ha, falling within a plot listed on the Tithe Apportionments for Plymtree as an orchard named Lower Rootland. The plot was depicted as low density woodland on the OS First Edition map, but not using the orchard symbology or map convention. This might support the interpretation that the orchard had ceased to be managed in the mid-19th century.
