Possible tree-planting banks of former post-medieval to 19th century orchards are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1948 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, at Knightshayne Farm, Yarcombe. Orchards are depicted in the immediate vicinity on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, although if orchards were present here, then it appears they had passed out of use by this time. The possible earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, are northeast to southwest and southeast to northwest aligned and occupy a combined area of approximately 0.20 hectares of northeast facing slope, within two separate areas on the south side of Knightshayne Farm. The earthwork banks to the southeast are associated with a linear northeast to southwest aligned field boundary which may suggest this orchard was rectilinear in shape.
