Parallel linear earthwork banks are visible on aerial photographs taken from 1947. Their broadly cross-contour orientation is indicative of post-medieval or 19th century tree planting banks, and this plot of land was named ‘Higher Orchard’ on the Tithe apportionment and orchard trees were depicted on the late-19th century OS mapping. They are interpreted as orchard banks that went out of use in the second part of the 20th century.
