Summary

Full description

A narrow and shallow linear ditch was visible as an earthwork.

The ditch remained visible as a shallow earthwork.

A linear ditch up to circa 4 metres wide and visible for a length of over 95 metres was identified on aerial photographs of 1946 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 as a shallow earthwork.
The visible earthwork did not correspond with any field boundary depicted on the 19th century mapping available to the survey but was broadly in keeping with the layout of the surrounding field pattern, which has been characterised as being derived from post-medieval Barton fields. It has therefore been interpreted as the remains of a former field boundary, possibly of medieval date that was removed by the early 19th century.
