Summary

Former field boundaries of likely post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1948 onwards, and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the northwest of Watchford Farm, Yarcombe. The field boundaries had probably passed out of use prior to the late 19th century.

Former field boundaries of likely post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1948 onwards, and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the northwest of Watchford Farm, Yarcombe. The T-shaped earthworks are northwest to southeast and northeast to southwest aligned. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any field boundaries depicted in this location on the available 19th century mapping. This supports the interpretation that the field boundaries had passed out of use prior to the late 19th century. The Parish Tithe map mosaic of approximately 1838-48 is incomplete here, so it is not possible to determine whether the field boundaries were extant by this time. A possible banked enclosure (MDV118633) is visible to the immediate east, although given the nature of the earthworks is unlikely to represent an associated feature.
