Full description
Urmston, Ben, 2008, Avon Support Main, between Roborough and Houndall, near Plymouth, Devon. (Report - Geophysical Survey). SDV358939.
A geophysical survey was undertaken of a proposed 13km water main between Roborough and Houndall, near Plymouth, Devon. Several sites of archaeological interest were identified. Two complexes of enclosures of clear archaeological potential have been identified, one to the east of Boringdon Camp, a known Iron Age site, and another to the west of Sparkwell. The former comprises two curvilinear enclosures with good evidence for internal features; the latter is rectilinear in form.
Several amorphous anomalies 4045 lie near the centre of this area, although their nature is unclear from their responses. From north of centre to the northern extent of this area, several anomalies of geological origin appear along with regions of increased magnetic response, which are probably of a similar nature. Trends oriented with the eastern boundary are likely to be indicative of former ploughing.

Two pits and a linear feature, possibly a field drain, were recorded in Area G3. An unstratified flint scraper was also found.
