Full description

Urmston, Ben, 2008, Avon Support Main, between Roborough and Houndall, near Plymouth, Devon. (Report - Geophysical Survey). SDV358939.

A geophysical survey was undertaken of a proposed 13km water main between Roborough and Houndall, near Plymouth, Devon. Several sites of archaeological interest were identified. Two complexes of enclosures of clear archaeological potential have been identified, one to the east of Boringdon Camp, a known Iron Age site, and another to the west of Sparkwell. The former comprises two curvilinear enclosures with good evidence for internal features; the latter is rectilinear in form.
Complex 4051 comprises numerous linear anomalies and probable pits, with linear anomalies 4052 and 4053 potentially representing an extended system of enclosures. A linear anomaly directly south of 4051 is probably a former field boundary extending eastwards towards Ledgate Lane, although it is interrupted by a modern service. Rectilinear anomalies 4054, along with numerous discrete anomalies in the southern portion of this compound, are most likely a continuation of 4051 to 4053, although any definite association is masked by the same service.

Taylor, S. R., 2009, Avon SWW Pipeline, Devon: Archaeological Mitigation Archive report, 22, Fig. 14 (Report - Assessment). SDV364052.

Three linear features were identified in Area CP7 which corresponded with previously recorded geophysical anomalies.
