Full description

Urmston, Ben, 2008, Avon Support Main, between Roborough and Houndall, near Plymouth, Devon. (Report - Geophysical Survey). SDV358939.

A geophysical survey was undertaken of a proposed 13km water main between Roborough and Houndall, near Plymouth, Devon. Several sites of archaeological interest were identified.
Linear responses 4065 may be of archaeological interest, although it is equally possible that they are related to modern drainage. A linear anomaly southwest of 4065, oriented northwest to southeast, is likely to be a former boundary.

Taylor, S. R., 2009, Avon SWW Pipeline, Devon: Archaeological Mitigation Archive report, 23, Fig. 16 (Report - Assessment). SDV364052.

Two ditches and a burnt pit were identified in Area G18. Ditch [1405], which corresponded with a linear anomaly recorded in the geophysical survey, was 1.3m wide and 0.55m deep. Ditch [1402] which was 3m wide and 1.3 deep contained two fills. The earliest fill was a stony deposit suggesting that this may be a field drain. However, it may be linked to the curvilinear feature [1408] recorded in area G17.
Pit [1406] contained a single, charcoal-rich fill. No finds were recovered from any of the features.
