Summary

Estate dates to at least the 17th century, based on the age of the buildings, but documentary sources indicate the settlement at Warmhill dates to Domesday, so the estate is likely to be older. Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

Early to mid-19th century Tithe Map shows the Great Warmhill Estate, with the main dwelling house (Warmhill Barton) to the south, with a range of buildings joined to the northern side. Further buildings including the farmhouse (MDV37786) and cottage (MDV37769) lie to the north beside the road and the apportionment even suggests that the dwelling at Little Warmhill (MDV37770) was part of the Great Warmhill Estate. Further buildings to the west were also part of the estate (outside the polygon area).
