A former extractive pit of possible post-medieval to mid-19th century date is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2008, to the southwest of Coombeshead Farm, Hemyock. The sub-triangular shaped earthwork measures approximately 32m in length by 27m in width and abuts a trackway along its southern edge. The extent of the earthwork pit is symbolised on the Parish Tithe map of 1838-48, suggesting that the extractive pit pre-dates this time.
