Possible tree-planting banks of former post-medieval to 19th century orchards are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1971 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014, at Culm Davy Farm, Hemyock. Orchards are depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1946 show that the orchards are largely covered with trees, although by 1971, these have been completely cleared, exposing a series of linear north to south aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established. These banks occupy two separate plots either side of Culm Davy Farm, with a combined area of approximately 0.52 hectares of south facing slope.
