A former field boundary of potential medieval date is visible as an earthwork bank on aerial photographs of 1950 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014, on northwest facing slopes, to the northwest of Higher Ashculm, Hemyock. The slight curvilinear earthwork is north to south aligned, curving towards the northeast at its northern extent, and broadly respects the historic field patterns depicted here on the Hemyock Parish Tithe map of 1838-48 of medieval enclosures based on strip fields. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any field boundaries shown here on this map, or subsequent historical maps made available to the survey, suggesting the field boundary had passed out of use by the mid-19th century.
