A possible former extractive pit of post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1989 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014, on southeast facing slope, to the southeast of Shoebrooks, Hemyock. The irregular shaped earthwork measures approximately 65m in length by 48m in width. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any features depicted in this location on First Edition Ordnance Survey map, which is instead shown as an orchard (SDV118924), suggesting the pit had passed out of use by the mid-late 19th century.
