A possible former extractive pit of post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1950 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014, on southeast facing slope, to the north of Middle Ashculm Farm, Hemyock. The sub-oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 45m in length by 35m in width. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any features depicted in this location on First Edition Ordnance Survey map, suggesting the pit had passed out of use by the mid-late 19th century.
