A possible former extractive pit of post-medieval to mid-19th century date is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1947 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014, on southeast facing slopes at the head of a combe, to the northeast of Whitemoor Farm, Hemyock. The elongated to irregular shaped earthwork measures approximately 100m in length by 45m in width. A copse is record here on the Parish Tithe Map and Apportionment and is illustrated here on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map, which likely suggests the trees were established within the pit sometime following its abandonment by this time.
